Mayo Business Awards 2017 Winners and Finalists

THE Mayo Business Awards made a glittering return, when the Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar was packed to capacity for the ceremony on Friday, 2nd February 2018 where the gala awards evening went off very successfully.

Mayo Business Awards, back for its third year and given the national emphasis on job creation and coordination between communities and enterprise, it is important that we continue to recognise and award the businesses in Mayo. The event is organised by the Mayo Chambers Group (consisting of members of Chambers of Commerce and business organisations from right around Mayo) and Mayo.ie and the Local Enterprise office been key partners in the initiative. With the success of the event, it has become an annual business occasion that has been held in various towns across Mayo each year.

From all the entries, four businesses were shortlisted in each of the thirteen award categories.

The awards were fiercely competitive in each category, with high calibre businesses entering from right around the county. The judges said they were particularly delighted to see entries in smaller, often more rural regions of the county, where there can be greater challenges to setting up a business and keeping it operational. Investment in business outside the main urban centres is a hugely positive indicator of the health of Mayo’s business landscape and of the spirit of entrepreneurship that exists in the county. There were entries from all over Mayo, ranging from the county town Castlebar and the other larger urban centres such as Ballina, Westport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe and Belmullet, to much smaller communities and villages from North, South, East and West Mayo – areas such as Achill, Newport, Balla and Louisburgh.

There were higher levels of entries from certain towns and regions where there is a higher concentration of businesses, and this was reflected in the shortlist.

A huge number of areas in Mayo were represented in the entries received, and the work of individual Chambers and local business organisations, as well as by the Local Enterprise Office and Mayo.ie is reflected in this.
