Westportif 2016 – Times & Safety Information

westportif 2016Ahead of the Westporif Cycle 2016, which takes place this Saturday July 16th, the organising committee would like to make people aware of potential disruption to road users due to the cycle.

With over 1500 people traveling from all over the country to partake, traffic will be busy particularly on the day of the race.

On Saturday the participants will be signing on for the race from 7am to 9am at the Leisure park on James St, Westport Co Mayo with the cyclist heading off from Westport from 9am.

The town of Westport will be thronged with bikes from 9am to 10am especially James St, The Mall, Bridge St, Shop St and Quay St before departing for Louisburgh  on the R335 to Ashleigh Falls. The cycle when then onto the N59 going North for the 80k route home to Westport  and South for the 120/160k routes to Leenane and Innagh Valley R334 joining the N59 at Recess via Maam Cross R336. The return journey will see cyclist on the R300 to Tourmakeady with the final few kilometers on the Cordarragh - Lankill rd via the N59 at Westport.

Most of the participants will be off the roads by 4pm.

The Westportif village will be at the Clew Bay hotel James St and will be busy from 2-8pm.

N.B. The Westportif Cycle is not a closed road event. Cyclists and other road users must adhere to the normal rules of the road.

The Westportif committee thank all road users for their patience and apologize for any delays caused.

Please remember to give cyclists 1.5m when over taking.

Sign on locations for the event are:

  • Friday 15th July at Monaghan’s Skoda Showroom, Castlebar from 3.30pm – 7pm 
  • Friday 15th July at Westport Leisure Park, Westport from 8.30pm – 10pm 
  • Saturday 16th July at Westport Leisure Park, Westport from 6.30am – 8am for 120/160k 
  • Saturday 16th July at Westport Leisure Park, Westport from 7.30am – 9.30am for 80k

All cycles will start from Westport Leisure Centre, James Street in Westport town with each route starting at different times.

Westportif start times:

  • The 160km cycle starts at 9.00am
  • 120k cycle starts at 9.30am
  • The 80km cycle starts at 10am

Race organisers estimate that the cycle will be passing through the following areas at:

  • Murrisk from 9:15 to 10:15am
  • Louisburgh From 9:35 to 10:40am
  • Delphi from 10: 15 to 11:30am
  • Ashleigh Falls 10:30 to 12:15pm
  • Carrowkennedy 12- 1:30pm
  • 80K route back to Westport via Quay St, James St - Finish 12:30-2pm
  • Leenane 11:15- 12:30pm
  • Kylemore Jnt to Innagh Valley 11:30- 12:45pm
  • Innagh Valley onto N59 to Recess 12 to 1:15pm
  • Maam Cross 12:20 to 1.45pm
  • Maam 12:30 to 2pm
  • 120k route @ Kilmilkin JNT 11:30 to 2.30pm
  • Finny Jnt 11:45 to 2:45pm
  • Tourmakeady 12:15pm to 3:15pm
  • Cordarrgh crossroads 12:45 to 3:45pm
  • Lankill to N59 via Quay St 1pm to 4:30pm
  • Last cyclist from 160k route expected home at 5pm
