New June date for Westport Food Festival

Westport Food Festival has a brand new midsummer date this year, from 24-26 June 2016. It’s a cracking line up with many old favourites returning plus some exciting new events. There’s a tasty appetiser in the form of an official launch on Thursday 19th May featuring Michelin star chef J.P. McMahon. Put it in the diary now! Further details will be issued closer to the launch date but it promises to be a fabulous evening.

“I believe the new June date will benefit Westport Food Festival enormously. We’ll have the benefit of lovely long midsummer evenings and definitely no football clashes!”, said festival chairman Eoin McDonnell, head chef at The Wyatt Hotel, “The committee are working hard on the programme which features some exciting new events including the Celebration of Food and the Great Irish Food Quiz. ”

The Great Irish Food Quiz
For some years Áine Maguire of The Idle Wall has run the famous Great Irish Food Quiz in Dublin, where gourmands from all over the country came to pit their wits against one another. This is the food nerd’s event of the year and it is taking place in Westport on Thursday 26th May. It’ll be a night to remember!

Tried and Tested
Back by popular request are the Mushroom and Seaweed Foraging, the Food Village at The Octagon,  Kid’s Pizza Making, Kayaking Picnic, the Bike Buffet and Foody Tours. The Artisan Beer Race proved a winning combination of thrills (and spills!) last year, and will be bigger and better in 2016.

New – Celebration of Food
The flagship event on Friday night is The Banquet - a Celebration of Mayo Food, at Hotel Westport celebrating all that’s great and good in local food. Tickets are limited so book this one early. Details will be posted on the website soon.
