Santa brings festive fun to Westport at Spraoi na Nollag!

Saturday next 19th. December sees Westport engulfed with the Christmas Spirit as The Town Hall Theatre becomes the focal point for Spraoi Na Nollag, Organised by the team at the Town Hall in association with Westport Chamber of Commerce, the space brings to life the joys of the festive season. Themed and decorated by the very creative Elsie Higgins the space has been transformed with all the characters of Christmas.

With the Crib taking centre stage on The Octagon the area will be the venue for some great free entertainment on the day. Santa will be cadging a lift with The Westport Jarvey, who has assured everyone that he will be picking him up on the edge of town. He will then transport him in style to arrive at the Town Hall at 1.30pm to the festive tunes provided by Westport Town Band. Santa will then meet and greet children before inviting them into the auditorium for the first puppet show of the afternoon ‘Hansel and Gretel’.

Throughout the afternoon there will be two other puppet shows – The Three little Pigs and the classic Little Red Riding Hood. Santa will join Mrs Claus for stortytelling seesion between the puppet shows.

The Town Hall is quickly establishing itself as a venue for many great community projects, including The Community Youth Arts Initiative. On Saturday evening at 5.00pm they will bring to the stage a fun piece of drama titled ‘Ebony Scrooge, this presentation has been self scripted and produced by these young peole.

The afternoon will also feature stilt walkers, jugglers, and face painters while ‘The Acoustic Yard Christmas Buskers’ will complete the festive line-up playing during the afternoon in the foyer in aid of local charities.

Seating for the shows will be on a first come first serve basis with all the events free of charge.
