Prestigious Mayo Business Awards Launched

MAYO Chambers and local business organisations in association with Mayo.ie and the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) at Mayo County Council are delighted to announce that the prestigious Mayo Business Awards will make a return later this year.

This gala dinner event will be held in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, on November 6 2015, with guest speakers on the night from the world of business, and, following the awards ceremony, entertainment until the early hours.

The organisers are hopeful that the Mayo Business Awards can once again become the flagship annual event and awards ceremony for businesses countywide, and create a unique environment for business networking opportunities. Going forward, it is planned to host this evening each year in a different location in Mayo. The event will give local businesses the opportunity to be recognised for their dedication, investment and hard work across several award categories, and a lifetime achievement in business award will also be bestowed on one recipient.

Collective initiative

The Mayo Chambers Group, through the affiliated local Chambers of Commerce and other business organisations, are driving the awards in various parts of the county and will be active in the coming weeks seeking entrants for each category. The event is being organised and run in conjunction with Mayo.ie and the Local Enterprise Office (LEO), while The Mayo News, Connaught Telegraph and The Western People, along with Mid West Radio, are also backing the initiative.

A new website has been designed and built in Kiltimagh to facilitate the entry process and is now live at www.mayobusinessawards.com

This means that entering, which is free, is a straightforward process. The award categories are as follows:

  • Micro-Enterprise Business Award (fewer than ten employees)
  • Retail Customer Service Business Award Category
  • Best Service Tourism Business Award
  • Best Hospitality Business Award
  • Green Business of the Year Award
  • Best Business Start-Up Award (less than two years)
  • Best Manufacturing Business Award
  • Agri, Food or Beverage Business Award
  • Best Technology Business Award
  • Best Professional Services Award
  • Lifetime Achievement Award/Business Person of the Year Award

Countywide

While there are other business themed awards, Mayo is one of the few counties in Ireland which does not a have a true county-wide event, and the Mayo Chambers felt it was time to address this.

“The Mayo Chambers of Commerce and business organisations group continue to meet regularly and to lobby on behalf of the whole county on the issues that businesses are coming up against, but we also feel that it is important to applaud and recognise the wide-ranging and hard-working businesses sector in Mayo, and we are hopeful that this event will be widely supported,” said Brian Hopkins from Ballina, Chairman of the Mayo Chambers Group.

President of Westport Chamber of Commerce, Neill O’Neill, added that this definitive event for Mayo businesses is a great opportunity for them to come together under a common theme, and stated that the honour of winning one of these prestigious awards, which will be independently judged, is something that every business can aim towards.

Rewards

John Magee from the Mayo Local Enterprise Office (LEO) and Enterprise and Investment Unit at Mayo County Council, expressed delighted at being associated with the 2015 Mayo Business Awards.

“We're delighted to be working with Mayo Chambers and Mayo.ie to develop an awards initiative that, over the next few years, will become highly prestigious and valued. Mayo has a very diverse business mix, with almost 5,000 businesses operating in the county. These Awards present an opportunity for many of them to receive some recognition for their fantastic success to date.

“We would strongly encourage Mayo businesses to enter these awards under the various category headings. There are a variety of reasons to enter these awards, including increased exposure for your business and to boost morale from gaining recognition of your business progress and success, and the benefit of taking some time to reflect on business strategy.

“The LEO is really excited about the potential of the Awards as a vehicle to highlight the successes and achievements of many different types of business dotted throughout the county.”

Tickets are priced at €60 and are on sale now online at www.mayobusinessawards.com or from your local chamber/business group office, while attractive corporate sponsorship packages are also available for the award categories.
