Westport Bike Week - 13th to 21st June 2015

National Bike Week begins this Saturday, June 13th and runs to June 21st. There are lots of events happening nationally and locally and Westport Smarter Travel has joined in and lined up a week full of fun cycling events.

  • Monday 15th see's the return of the annual School & Community Cycle, begining at 12.45pm in Scoil Padraig.
  • The Try-A-Bike Roadshow will be touring Westport estates from Tuesday to Thursday. Westport Bikes4Hire and Westport Men's Shed will have all sorts of bikes to try out including electric, trandems, tag-a-longs and bike trailers, all free of charge. WST will also have maps and information on the benefits of cycling available. The Try-A-Bike Roadshow will visit Ashwood Estate on Tuesday 16th from 6-7pm, Golf Course Rd. (beside the Gaelscoil) on Wednesday 17th from 6-7pm and Carrowbeg Estate on Thursday 18th from 6-7pm.
  • Sofa 2 Saddle is a beginer cycling course for anyone that would like to improve their cycling skills. It wil run from 7-8pm on Thursday 18th at the Quay Community Centre.
  • On Friday 19th there will be a Guided Historical Bike tour of Westport meeting at 7pm at the Octagon. This event is being organised by WESCo in association with Clew Bay Heritage Centre. 
  • And on Saturday 20th, Westport's Covey Wheelers are holding a Family Leisure Cycle, meeting at Gaelscoil na Cruaiche at 2pm.

Westport Country Markets Ltd.

Westport Country Markets opened in October 1987 and over the years it has expanded and is now a thriving business with a wide range of local produce and crafts available at the weekly market every Thursday in St Anne's Boxing Club on James St.

Produce on offer include organic vegetables, potatoes and herbs, fresh fish, local cheese, flowers, freshly baked goods and jams while there is also a selection of cards, photography handmade soaps & textiles, knitwear, birchwood puzzles and other traditional or handmade crafts on sale.

All goods supplied by members are produced locally and use native and local materials where possible.

The Westport Country Market takes place all year round on every Thursday morning from 8.30am to 1.00pm in St Anne's Boxing Club in James Street Car Park.
