Westport Celebration Day 9th September

Celebration day picture

A Celebration Day will be held at Westport House on September 9th after John O’Callaghan successfully nominated the town in the Best Places to Live in Ireland competition.

This day will be full of FREE Family Fun Activities, with a heritage aspect, horse jumping, children’s activities, sporting events and food stalls there to keep everyone busy. This day is all about getting the community out to celebrate what Westport has and to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of the town.

Town manager of Westport, Mr Martin Keating, told a meeting of Westport Town Council last week that the town had already seen benefit from the award. Since the announcement of Westport as winners a three-page special had run in The Irish Times and had been very well received.

Mr Keating had also met with representatives of the Irish Times and two main items were discussed, namely a Celebration Day in the town and the erection of a monument/sculpture to mark the victory.

Mr Keating said everyone involved was keen to make sure the Celebration Day was family orientated, was inclusive of all aspects of the Westport community and was of minimum cost.

Don’t forget to save the date 9th September 2012.
